All things fall

Autumn is officially underway, and with it comes a whole load of Pumpkin flavoured food, fall festivals and lots of excited Americans. People seem to love this season here- maybe it’s because the weather finally becomes bearable, and it also means Halloween is coming. And Halloween is taken very seriously here.
Two weeks ago was the annual Evansville ‘Fall Festival’- the second largest street festival in America. It’s pretty much the biggest thing that happens in Evansville all year, so I wasn’t going to miss it. The food there was absolutely insane- EVERYTHING was deep-fried! I figured I had to try it all, because who knows when I’m going to be able to try this much deep fried food again (and have an excuse for it). There was deep fried pizza, mac and cheese, cookie dough and my personal favourite- deep fried Oreos. (The picture below really doesn’t do it justice, I promise it was delicious.) There were also a number of different rides and lots of music, so the whole evening really was as fun as people said.
Fall break came around the next weekend. While here one of the places I really, really wanted to visit was Chicago- a 6h drive from Evansville, so me and 5 other friends decided to go over during the four day break from school. We tried to do as much as we could while we were there. We went to Navy pier, Millennium Park, the bean, did lots of shopping along the magnificent mile and tried LOTS of food. We only spent 2 and a half days in Chicago but I absolutely fell in love with the city. It’s a lot cleaner than most cities I’ve been to, and I’ll never get bored of the architecture and skyline of the place. My favourite parts were Millennium Park and the infamous bean, and all the food- most notably cheesecake factory and Giordano’s.
Lastly, fall is the start of bonfire nights and pumpkin EVERYTHING. I tried ‘pumpkin spice latte’ for the first time, (so basic I know) and I have to say I really wasn’t that impressed… Maybe pumpkin pie will be better. Last weekend the SCF (Student Christian Fellowship) had a bonfire night in a farm in Kentucky about 40 minutes from Evansville. It was a great evening spent making hotdogs and smores over the fire, line dancing to country music in an old barn and singing songs around the fire. It really was a great evening apart from the fact that it was absolutely FREEZING, and my Irish friend Saorlaith and I came completely unprepared thinking we would be ok in only leather jackets, only to find everyone else wrapped up in warm coats and hats and gloves. Oops.
And now here are some photos from the past few weeks: (yes I am aware half of these photos are of food-what can i say.)
